Water Chestnut Harvesting Update
|
What a week! 2.7 MILLION POUNDS of Chestnuts out of Baldwinsville!
This could only be possible with the help and support of:
–CASE MARINE (access for the boats to off load onto shore and into dump trucks)
-Cayuga SWCD (operating two 11-Ft harvest boats, one forwarder boat, one dump truck) cutting out ~ 27 10-ton loads per day
-T. Van Buren Highway Department (dump trucks for hauling)
-T. Lysander Highway Department (dump trucks hauling)
-Emmi Farms (provided 2 fields to beneficially reuse the Chestnuts)
To date, we are at ~9,190,465 pounds of Chestnuts removed in 2023!!!!!
***We have checked the loads daily and there are still A LOT of seeds on the plants. Seeds not on the plants are observed floating in the “cabbage” and being pickup up by the harvest boats.***
THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY FOR MAKING THIS POSSIBLE!
